How the network sees

Every network drone will carry a wide camera, a 112× zoom, a thermal camera and a laser rangefinder. Our vision models turn the pictures into answers: what is wrong, where, and what changed since yesterday.

A thermal picture of roofs and a street from a drone: the warm street and roof edges glow orange in the dark
The same roofs through the thermal camera: warm spots glow orange, cold roofs are purple Roofs and a tram street in Karlsruhe seen from a drone early in the morning

Where the heat escapes

The thermal camera sees heat. On a cold morning a roof shows exactly where it leaks: around windows, chimneys and joints. Drag to compare.

Same spot, every day

The drone flies the same route and takes the picture from exactly the same spot every time. Drag to see what changed.

One building site in Zurich, seen by a fixed camera about two years apart, in 2020 and 2022.

The same spot in 2022: a finished six-storey block of flats with solar panels on its roofs A building site in Zurich in 2020 seen from a roof: an empty pit, with an old block half torn down behind it
The same square with every person blurred into a soft smudge; the fountain, the stalls and the shadows stay sharp Piazza del Campo in Siena from high above: groups of people walking and sitting on the brick square, a fountain and two market stalls

Places, not people

  • The model is built to find people and number plates and blur them before anyone sees a picture.
  • The camera points down. It looks sideways only at a building someone has ordered.
  • Every flight keeps to a set route and height band, and a pilot watches it.

How a flight goes

Wait

The drone waits in its station in town, charged and warm, day and night, at −30°C too.

Fly

When a flight is due or someone asks, it takes off on its own and flies a set route. A pilot watches every flight, and a parachute opens by itself if something fails.

Look

It photographs the place with all four cameras, the models mark what needs attention, and the drone flies home to charge.

The models

First versions, trained and tested on public pictures. Next they learn from our own flights.
